  • Nvidia K4000 / VRay RT problems

    Hi

I am far from technically minded so please bear with me. I recently bought a top end machine with an Nvidia K4000. I had thoughts and dreams of GPU rendering and superb navigation through detailed geometric scenes.

I don't know if this is linked hence why I'm moaning about both, but primarily I cant get VRay RT to render out using the CUDA (single kernal) engine?

I am left with a blank black render buffer window with "Waiting for image data" on the bottom line of text.

Navigation through scenes is pretty terrible too - anything more complex than a box blocks out whilst panning or orbiting.

Any ideas of what's going on? Any help would be fantastic.

Do you mean navigating through viewports when RT is off, or navigating with RT on? the k4000 isnt a very good card anyway, a geforce 780 is over 3x faster. I have a 780 here, and it's not much faster than RT CPU but completely kills max performance when it's on dropping viewport/max performance to worse than integrated graphics.
given that rapid feedback is useless if you cant navigate or do things with the interface cpu ends up being much faster to use overall for me.

    the k4000 gets a score of 2,800 on here - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Yes - just simple viewport navigation. RT is OFF. I know that's not an RT issue - but I thought the 2 problems may be linked.

RT will not work at all using the CUDA engine.

There seems to be many different drivers for the Quadro range - I am running the 333.11 version if that's any help?

At first please open Select OpenCL devices for V-Ray RT GPU from Start Menu > ChaosGroup > Vray RT and ensure that your GPU device is listed and selected.
Then if Vray RT is registered as a render service please stop it. You could do that by starting "Remove V-Ray RT render server as a service" from Start Menu > ChaosGroup > Vray RT.
Run another Vray RT CUDA test.
