  • Vray RT Maya - most significant performance factors

I have been working on optimizing rendering performance V-Ray RT CUDA mode (3.0) of a not-heavy scene. At one point I made a small change in sampling or ray bundle size or rays per pixel, or maybe in my HDR map (?) and my renders got 6x-8x faster. Made few changes and the speed fell off again, and I have not been able to reconstruct what I did to achieve that speed.

What factors in the scene, and/or Vray settings, that could have this kind of impact - very subtle, visually imperceptible change in the image quality (during a batch render) but a dramatic, 6-8x speed boost?

As far as I know there are no options that will make 6x-8x faster render times without any change in the quality of the image.
Tweaking certain parameters can speed up the rendering but the image quality will be also affected - this is how the things work.

It would be a good idea to send us the scene along few output images for investigation just in case.
