  • Installing from .zip file RT not working

    Hi,

I have vray 3.01 for maya (vray_adv_30001_maya2015_x64) running as an install on the network from a zip file. VRay software is rendering fine, however if I try to use RT it gets to "Moving hair segments: 0" and then nothing happens. When I install vray locally everything works fine. I followed the instructions and have set all the proper variables. Is there something else that needs to be configured to get RT working from a ZIP install?

    Maya 2015 Extension 1
    VRAY for Maya 3.01
    Win7
    4x GeForce GTX Titan

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Please check if you have set the variables for running the Standalone:

Thanks... That actually wasn't it but it did point me in the right direction. The online docs for installing vray from a zip has two bits of additional info than the PDF that comes with the installer.

"8. Add to the PYTHONPATH variable the folder vray_builds/my_version/maya_vray/scripts to be able to use V-Ray's python modules"
"10. Edit vray_builds/my_version/maya_vray/bin/vrayconfig.xml and set <PluginsPath> to be vray_builds/my_version/maya_vray/vrayplugins to be able to use V-Ray RT"

It's all working now, but the PDF that comes with the installer should be updated.

I do have a question about the vrayconfig.xml. Will that read a variable set from the Maya.env or do I have explicitly declare a path in that file?

      Thanks again,
      Andrew

Glad to hear that it works now and thank you very much for the feedback.
I'll make a note to update Installation PDF Guide.
