  • Large scenes not rendering in Vray RT

Large scenes will not render with RT, and RT still have the same ram bug after all this time of reporting. Building BVH Tree still Reads the wrong amount of ram in RT, ADV reads around 8.9gb and RT builds the BVH up to around 27gb before crashing out of max. I converted the scene over to Octane it uses correct ram and starts rendering quickly and renders quickly after also. For a while now RT has seemed to become broken for us, it doesn't render most the time and seems to have some good bugs. We where hoping to fully move our pipeline to RT but doesn't seem like a secure choice anymore. I'm on the latest stable public release and Max 2016 x64, video card is a Titan X.

    Hi,
I assume that you are comparing V-Ray CPU Adv vs RT GPU ?
Since all the scene data is being uploaded to the GPU memory when RT GPU engine is the current renderer, such difference in the memory consumption is expected. We have done some improvements on that regard for the next service pack.

You can send us your scene file for inspection to our support mail (support at chaosgroup.com) so we can have a look. There might be a problem that we haven't seen.

Yes Vray cpu adv vs Vray RT Gpu. The scene file is 275mb compressed and a commercial project, do you have a ftp to upload to. It should just show us usage of gpu ram, having it combined is to confusing, we don't then know how much we can fit into gpu and where our limitations are. also it still doesn't make sense since it uses over 3 times the amount of ram until it crashes the program. Back in the day vray RT and use to show render time remaining, and it doesn't anymore, that was really useful too.

        Thanks for the quick response.
Please drop us an email to support@chaosgroup.com including a link to this thread and we will reply with all details required to access our FTP.
We will see what causes this big memory consumption.
