  • Error during initialization

Hi can someone shed light on what the error message: Error during Vray initialisation Stage 2"

Using Vray RT in active shade

I have referred to other threads re forest pack, but I dont think this is it

I have a scene with rail clone items in it, but this is updated to latest build and RClone renders fine in a simple scene on its own so i don't suspect that.
i have forest pack installed but not used in this scene.

Just bought a 1080ti, woudl love it if it worked!

    3ds max 2016 x 64, Vray 3.6.01

    thanks!

    Hello,

When you get that message V-Ray will create a crash dump called vray.dmp in your temp folder (enter %temp% in windows explorer address bar) - could you send one such file ?

    Best regards,

Thanks for the crash dump. It seems related to a PhoenixFD object in the scene - do you have such ?

Hi, yes. Is phoenix not supported with RT? Even so in this scene it doesn't matter if the phoenix object is hidden or turned off on a layer it still crashes?

Phoenix is supported in RT but there seems to be a bug in your case. I'll log it in our system.
Could you try if you delete the Phoenix object at all ?

Hi, I have tried another scene, this one had a phoenix element in it, which I then deleted and then removed phoenix from the environment effects completely. then saved, and restarted max, still get same error. latest dump file attached.

Sorry I can't its a corporate job with IP I can't share unfortunately. The weird thing is, even if I delete phoenix from the effects window, and save the file, and close max...when I reopen its somehow restored itself as an effect despite being no objects in the scene. Maybe its this weird persistence that's effecting this? I have another scene started from scracth (no phoenix ever) and it works fine. maybe this is a bug for the Phoenix forums?

I've notified the Phoenix guys about your problem and they'll try to check it soon and write back.

Ah! It seems it was a PG [Splashes] object that seemed to be causing the crashes in this particular scene...removed that and now seems to be working. It wasn't actually linked to any sim grids in the scene so thats weird.

Hey, one additional question - would it be possible to share the version of Phoenix as well?

                        Thanks very much!
