  • ClearCoat in vrayMtl and as a separate AOV for NEXT CUDA rendering

    Hey Guys,
using NEXT / CUDA / Maya

Looking to see if there are plans to / possible to include a clearcoat color and weight to the vrayMtl and then have that ouptut be written into a clearCoat render element, separate from specular and reflection. I think it would be totally fine to combine the clearCoat specular and the clearcoat reflections into a single Render Element. The key here is that it is supported in CUDA rendering in NEXT, as we cannot use MaterialSelect render elements in CUDA mode.

Is this possible? / Is there a workaround for not being able to do material selects in CUDA mode?

    Thanks

    J

Thanks for the suggestion. Currently, there is a plan to support MaterialSelectRE in CUDA engine, which would solve the issue. Our developers are informed about it and the request is on their to-do lists. Additionally, I will increase its priority.

Thank you very much! This has been a very urgent need for us as we are taking full advantage of the speed provided by CUDA. Eagerly looking forward to seeing the update!

Separate from the Material Select render element, we do plan to add a coat layer to VRayMtl as well, along with an associated render element.
