  • Decals Placing

    Hi guys,

Placing decals in MAX got way easier with the new update of f-Storm.

Is it possible to have a similar one for V-Ray?

    Regards,

Since CPU up till now in GPU this was my approach.

Setup is pretty messy and it lacks a lot of functions cause of my poor knowledge of maxscript but it helped us many times.

That's very cool. Would be great to see some implementation of this at some point.
I'm afd now but am curious what controls the overlay? This is the one thing missing from that linked Fstorm vid but the one thing I wanted to see apart from IT generally

Yeah i tried to figure out how to do this in vray recently and it was a miserable experience.

Some simple out of the box tools would be incredible - a projection gizmo with include/exclude, which you apply a material and alpha to and slap around intersecting any old objects in the scene.

I'd really like to start using this technique. real time game engines are starting to take over offline rendering for level of detail they can add quickly...!

                Hi

In this case.. Material Coat Number..

Higher in Blend material means the decal is going to be on top

For instance: Coat 1 is on top of Coat 2 material which is on top of Coat 3 material etc

                Regards,
                Ledian

                  Aha! Thanks.
This approach to texturing stuff is really very cool, in that it should allow for really randomised multi-blends, e.g. asphalt or whatever which can be tweaked in camera, per-view.
Meaning no headachy map creation for certain things like roads etc., or layering of leaves or whatever else...the possibilities are most likely endless
I remember Fstorm showed something like this, so probably based on the the same approach in their vid posted.

Beats having to duplicate maps and corresponding UVW modifiers or fiddling with distancetex by a loooong shot. +1 for this feature!
                      A.

+1 Much needed feature in Vray/Max! The system in Unreal works very well. Something comparable would be nice.
