  • Gpu hit when using cryptomatte

So, i know that there will be a hit with gpu usage when using renderelements, but i did a quick test on my 4090. a 3000x4000 image took 3mins, with no elements, but 4mins with a single cryptomatte added...thats quite a hit. I know nothing about gpu coding etc but wondering if there could be any way, similar to the denoiser, where you can specify a different gpu for renderelements, or maybe cpu?

    Hi Adrian!

For V-Ray GPU every sample is sent to the gpu, its results are gathered and modified by the cpu and then drawn. So the process is not done on GPU
Once we are done with Caustics(soon) we will invest time to research a solution. As mentioned before, it is a complicated task that we invested in effort before without success.
On another note, we have been able to improve time to first pixel drastically which affects performance a lot. This will be the direction we take in the near future to improve performance, no promises on the slow down with render elements

    Best,
    Muhammed
