While VRayRT, to some extent provides for 3rd party plugins either now or in the future, the main impediment to developers if rewriting their code for yet another SDK. What I would suggest is, like you have with OpenCL, adopting an open standard for shaders, such as MetaSL (i'm not sure if this is an open standard at all! But the name indicates it is.) This would mean that developers are coding once, and they'd instantly have a shader that is compatible in most Autodesk applications, as well as the VRay implementations across the board.
