difference between a 200+mb file and 6mb file

Hi,

Ive found some of the scans are in the hundred mb or more file size, and some around 6mb. What are the difference between these files? Is it a huge amount of data going into the larger files or are they just compressed differently?

Hi, no, they are not just compressed diferently, the different materials require different info in order to represent them.For example if the material is anisotropic you need full combination set (each light against each camera), but reduced capture set can be used for symmetric materials. This is just an example, in general we have several different pipelines for scanning and building the material, adjusted for different material types. Beside the material "simplicity" factor, there are also improvements in the technology. You can notice the materials scanned during the last 3 years are significantly smaller than the older materials with the same parameters, because 3 years ago we introduced a new technology, used in the most scans after that.

You mean the library? As i know there is no roadmap, we just upload the samples of producers who agree to make their scans public.
