  • Volumetric material

    Hey guys,

Have just been browsing through the stuff about VRscans on your website and some of the sample images (of carpet I think) say it's a volumetric material. Can anyone explain what this means/is?

    Hi Macker,

We call volumetric materials, materials like carpets or blankets which fibers create volume on the material surface.

So does the shader actually create these fibers, or is it an approximation (like in the standard vraymtl)?

No, the shader does not create these fibbers as objects, if you render a side view there will be no fibers above the geometry. But the shader reproduces the general appearance of the materials with fibers, that is not as easy with the standard tools as it looks.
