  • Comprehensive list of which render elements are supported with vrscans?

Hey, as the title suggests I am looking for a comprehensive list of what I could expect in terms of render elements using vrscan materials instead of regular vray materials?

    Thanks

Hi, in general using vrscans decreases the render element count because they are not based on parametric decomposition (there are no diffuse, specular or other idealized components)
Nevertheless, some helpful separation is still possible, the useful elements are:
    - the clear coat reflections, stored in the VRayReflection
    - the direct light contribution, stored in VRayLighting
    - the indirect lighting by spawned rays, stored in VRayGlobalIllumination . Note that this element is stored even if no GI is enabled in the VRay options
    - the opacity of the material stored in Alpha
    - the received caustics stored in VRayCaustics

The VRayGlobalIllumination is always black here...

yes, in the official release all the reflections (the spawned rays and the clear coat ) are stored in the VRayReflection render element. However this is a bit useless, because despite the technical fact that they are reflected rays by nature, for the user the spawned rays are not reflections, you can not (in the most cases) see an object like in a mirror. so, we decided to leave only the clear coat reflections in the reflection render element, and to move the rest to the global illumination
