  • Using a bitmap for Paint color doesn't work on GPU

    Hello,

I'm trying to use a bitmap for Paint color on some scans with the RTX engine, nothing happens. It seems to be working fine on CPU though
This happens with all scans, is this not supported on GPU?
I'm pretty sure this used to work in the past.

As i see in the code, it's not supported, are you sure that it was working at some point?

Thanks for the reply, I mostly use the GPU engine in Vray.. and I think I have used this in the past
Maybe I used it with CPU in the past I will need to check some of the old files
The paint color for Fabrics and leather is key honestly (with a bitmap)
This is what I'm working on now,
I need a bitmap for the paint color on the carpet to get a bit of variation (to match the older look) , this scan does a very good job or else I will need to build this material from scratch with displacement
Is it possible to have this work on GPU ?

I also realized you guys added some new scans this year, is there a way to download the entire library to use it locally? or do I need to download them one by one?

      Thanks!

I'm afraid the map option can't be added easyand fast to the GPU implementation, but you can try combination of blend material +vrscans to add some variations, may be this is even the better option. The paint feature is designed to be used with plaincolor materials (like leather, carpaints etc) , and the naturalcolor of the material is replaced entirely, not just modified (perhaps you mean the filter color option?).

I use Paint Color with leather, wood, fabrics..etc and Filter Color is more for metals
For this Carpet it is gonna be a map for Paint Color, variation in brightness and saturation. I will do a render on CPU to show you the effect
Using a blend material could achieve the same I think, it will take time..Paint color should be easier
I think I will live with this for now

          And about this part

I also realized you guys added some new scans this year, is there a way to download the entire library to use it locally? or do I need to download them one by one?
Do I need to downlaod the scans one by one?

          Thanks!

As i know there is no option, because the size is huge , you have to browse and download what you need.

Some update: the whole library is uploaded to FTP server and access is given on demand, write to vrscans@chaosgroup.com
