  • Dropped buckets when rendering via DR

    Hey guys,
we are having a very strange problem here.
One of our render nodes is sometimes rendering weird buckets. It happens only on materials which are VrScans. The clearcoat is rendered correctly, but lighting and GI passes are black.
It is always the same node. The issue is not reproducable with every rendering, sometimes the node works fine. We already reinstalled Max and V-Ray on that node, but it did not help.
If this was a license issue, the node without a license would render the VrScans, but with a watermark, right?

I am very disappointed with the support on this matter.

      Hi Kosso,

I don't think the bucket is dropped, its rather rendered with wrong color space by the looks of it. I am not sure what the setup is on your DR machine, it would be good to ensure max/maya vray versions are the same and the color space the max is in is correctly configured.

Hi, thanks for posting and please excuse us for the delayed reply. Is this issue happening with any Chaos Scanned material or only with a specific one? Could you try to render the scene locally on the render node that has the issue?
Also if you'd like you could send us the scene through the support contact form so we can review it.

The nodes are all configured in the same way, they all share the same setup for color space and gamma. Also, the rest of the scene renders fine, only the VrScans materials are affected.
If for some reason a node can not get a license, the VrScans will still rendered, but the buckets will have a watermark, right?

Hi, you will not get watermarks if the license is at fault. It does not seem to be license related.

              Hi Oliver,
this seems like a complex one, if it happens only with one node, that is certainly up to date, than it looks like some hardware specific problem, but i doubt that the license is to blame. Since VRay 6 the scans do not need rendering license anymore, and beside this the buckets do not show watermark.
Another possibility is network issues, the scans are big in size, so if there is a network problem, they may be more affected than the rest of the scene. In all the cases if this happens only on certain node, it can't be reproduced here, so you have to help us to fix it. Let start with the log file, you can find it in the %temp% directory the name is vrayscannedmtl.log. When the problem appears, send us the log from the problematic node for investigation

                Thanks Ivaylo,
I will save the log files the next time this error is showing up.
