  • normal error black

    Hi,
I am getting some black areas on my renders using the scans. Sometimes the whole object that has a scan material on it goes black. I am using the latest public release of Vray. I get a normal error in the message log when this happens.

    Best regards

Hi Tarik, to help you i will need some additional info
    - What product you are using max or maya?
    - What is the material that you are using (the name or something that identifies it)?
    - Is the same happening if the scanned material is replaced by a normal material (to exclude geometry corruption)?
If the problem occurs only with scanned materials, i.e. it's not caused by bad geometry and renders fine with vray material, please send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com with brief description

      Hi,
I am using max 2017 sp3, it works fine with a normal vray material. It happens with every scan material I have tried so far. I will send over the scene later today.
I'll send the error message it comes up with as well.

      Best regards,

I'm experiencing a similar issue when rendering an animation on max 2017 sp3. Some frames render fine, but many are missing the geometry with the VRscan material applied. Eventually the render errors out.

unfortunately the message does not help a lot, can you find the log file %temp%\vrayscannedmtl.log after the problem occurs and send it to us?
is the problem easily reproducible, i.e. is it happening every time at the same frame, or it appears randomly?

            Found a work around:

Apparently my problem was caused by a "Position Attachment" Controller on a Point Helper that was attached to a vertex on the object. It also periodically failed to render with a standard vray material.

To work around: I unchecked "Renderable" in the original Object Properties then made a copy that is renderable. Everything seems to be working fine now.

I'm thinking this is an error with 3ds Max (not vray).
