  • Random texture variation

    Hello,
what's the process to get a random variation (color) of the same texture?
Mutlitexture can't be plug to Vrayscan
Multisubtext can't be plug to the Vrayscan

    Thanks

As i understand, the multitexture plugin sample random texture depending on the object ID. To reach this effect with vrscans, you can use the triplanar option with random offset, the effect must be the same

Thanks, in fact it is done either with MatID or ObjectID.
I plug the vrayscan to a VrayblendMat (as base and the same with a little different color in coat) with the Vraysubtext as mask. But it doesn't look great for on this Moabi Decking Boat. Probably yhe Vrayscan sample are too small in dimension.
        Will try triploanar as suggested.

the most samples in the library are about 15 cm, we have a new device that can scan up to 40 cm but as i know all the wood materials in the library are older
you can try to rescale the scample in order to have nice wood details, the eye is surprisingly insensitive to the wood scale violations

If most samples are only 15cm, doesn't that produce tiling?

The materials are balanced, this means their average properties are equal over the sample and it's not so easy to find the repeating pattern. Of course not all the materials can be balanced in 15 cm sample, that's why we constructed a new device able to handle up to 40x30 cm, and one more much wider is under construction. I think there are already some materials in the library that are wider, and in the near future their count will increase.
