8 hours work

this is my first interior with vray - it was fun. I love vray

it was a very quick job-I only had 8 hours from start to finish.
maybe I can find time to make minor changes, maybe not but I need all your comments and crits for my progress

i love the overall lighting…very warm n taseful, nice harmony of colors, only crits wud be the proportions…chairs are too big, sofa too small…and too perfect, the fridge out of place? the liquid in the glass looks weird,
i love the glow in the blinds

shadow

the only thing i want to say is the horizontal blinds should cast some strong shadow..based on the shadow being casted by the chair

@roark : liquid in the glass is supposed to be wine  but I wasnt succesful. I need help on this.

@reza : the shadow of the chair is from the pendant light from the ceiling.
so the shadows of the blinds should fall on the glass but since sun comes in from window no shadows seen.

shadow..

if you look closely next to the window opening you can see a streak of shadow behind the shutter…and since its quite strong it should cast shadow in that direction…also the shadow that is casted by the wine glass is also out of place…you sun is reaching all the way to the sofa on the right…well i might be wrong..ill post an image soon..

Seems the sun is a spot light and not a directional, or a directinal with area shadows but too close to the scene, so the shadows are acting like spot shadows.

@reza : nothing is excluded from casting shadows. and max calculated the shadows like this-I really dont know what I should correct - waiting for yor file .

@trixian : it is direct light with vray shadows-area shadows.

it seems that something wrong with my shadows from your critiques-but I really didnt understand it. so please help me to see.

Well, your direct light is probably too close to the scene, and when it has area shadows turned on, it acts more lika a spot light than a direct light. It still hits the surfaces evenely, but the shadow is cast from one point. What you need to do if you want soft area shadows from a direct light is move the direct light far far far from the scene until the effect is no longer noticable.

Great lightning, true colors, nice materials…
this is the best work ever that you’ve done and the “thing” in the glasses, they better be liquid..

Nice job cg,

Shadow

Please bare with me…the image i did is a crude 1 just to show shadow falling into place…i increase the multiplier to 15…and the shadow is still there.Didnt say your lighting isn’t good…its just missing a bunch of hard shadow from the horizontal blinds…if you have a strong light coming from outside and is strong enough to light up a room…definitely you will find hard shadows regardless how small the object casting it would be. but of course shadow will die out over certain distance…but not right after the object. You could try increasing the density…

@reza : it is not baring at all - I appreciate your help and concern  thank you very much. you are right it is strange that my blinds dont cast shadows-but it may be because of area shoadows- that the place where shadows fall is too far. anyway I am sending you the max file

@anubis : thank you very much

shadow

ok, i did this with the file you sent me..you were using to much lights and from too many direction…i just moved your lights prependicular to the window and rotated your vray lights in the direction the light was hiting the window. i deleted the light that was coming from the balcony…ill mail you the file later..
i think you can notise the shadow coming from the window to the floor…

hi reza
this lighting looks nice too  the shadows of the blinds make it really dynamic.
I make a guess about what happened to my shadows:
since I didnt sacrifice the shadow from the door- because I like the way light falls on to the wall and the painting, I used the light at such angle that both the windows and the door take in sunlight- and because the shadows area shadows, I think they vanished because they fell far away.

one question about vray lights: you said yo made them perpendicular to the direct light. can you explain why?

light

Most people simply put the vray light where any opening such as door, window or gaps are…but the light direction in not flush to the wall…if youre trying to mimic the sun, it comes from a certain angle…i simply follow the direct light…so that both shadow are consistent and right…if you do it the other way round..youll end up having the light flush to the internall wall when it should touch the floor…like the image i did…
besides if you want the light to touch the sofa and the painting, you just need to rotate all the lights to the direction…area shadow for the sun is not quite right…shadow for sun is suppose to be sharp and crisp(depens on the time of the day…) indirectlighting is suitabble with area shadow for interior.

thanks reza for your great help

you’re welcome

anytime…

Final…but with low setings..

it looks cool
when I have time I must take one more render with such lighting too

please send me the scene and the velvet material
