ADesk breaks user permissions for 3ds max

i just re started max 2018 and got a message saying I need to sign in a different user. It has my correct serial number pre entered. I cannot sign in as a different user because I am th only user.

i called my re seller and they say they have gotten a weak ass alert from ADesk saying that somehow in the process of rolling out max 2019 they have broken user permissions for past versions. No idea of when his may be fixed. I?m dead in the water with several things in process. Sheeesh!

Hope this isn’t the case for 2016! Really don’t have the time to have to deal with this type of s@#t.

your telling me! My advice, do not close max for the time being. you vary well may not be able to re-start it.

FWIW I can open 2017 but would rather chew off my foot that use it. Still you may be ok with 2016. If you go to your Adesk account, Management>Users you will see your name. Top the right is a edit access link. If you click on that and just spins around forever and nothing loads then… don’t close max. Also note the alert they have just now posted at the top of that account management page. Hope this may help

Any surprised? Each year I get less and less interested in new releases.

yeah and I’m not using a “new” release just trying to use the 2018 I was using all day until I decided I wanted to try a re-start. Then this. A new era of future releases sabotaging past releases has just been entered

I crash several times a day using the NEXT Beta 2, so I’ll be in your boat sometime today.

Shouldn’t you be working, instead of toying with the beta? ^^

I tried to remove it, but my right mouse click broke. I don’t think V-Ray broke it; I think Forest Pro broke it. Anyway, if I don’t use progressive render and Ebree off with Bucket I’m fine with Beta 2.

And, if I stay away from Auto exposure beta 2 is good.

You sounded pretty opposite of “good”, hence me asking.

It *is* a beta, we advise against using it in production, lest frustrations creep in.
You use it just so, get frustrated, and vent here in a way which makes it look like all the beta does is crashing.
That’s not very cool, nor very representative of the beta, or particularly respectful of the guys and girls which are poring over code every day to get you a better tool.

I just wanted to flag it, as it bothered me, that’s all.

I’m a bit “slow”. Can you please explain better? If I’m eligible for an upgrade to version 2019 I would no longer be able to use older versions? Or if I download/install/start 2019 I would no longer be able to use older versions?

I just got directed on how to start my 30 day free trial and so I can now use that. I was told that “I was lucky” because I had not yet used up the 30 day free trial, unlike other “less lucky” victims.

Then what the heck are beta testers for! I am using it in practice, reporting issues I have to help the community and get thrown under the bus for it?

Bobby, Beta testing is akin to ‘program testing’ - there should be no frustration as it’s not ready for real-world use - it’s about finding bugs, reporting issues and making suggestions etc !

Open_Range,

Are you on a subscription ? Or has this happened to you on a perpetual / maintenance licence ?

Really ??

If you’re on subscription, stop paying and see what happens…

not sure what you mean. I just never understood the diff and don’t need to now I don’t think. I’ve always stayed in the upgrade path and having subscription does not bother me. But it appears they made my 2019, which I have not yet downloaded, a perpetual license versus the upper section with the 2018 and previous versions are all subscription. I’m totally confused, and now using a 30 day free trial of 2018 even though I’ve been using it since it came out.

I think it is free software for a year for the torment of MAX 2017

There’s a pretty hefty difference between “maintenance subscription” and “subscription subscription”. The 1st case is the one we’ve known for ages and you pay ~700 USD/EUR per license per year. In the latter case you pay, well, through the nose (2000 USD/EUR per license per year!).

And you forgot to mention that the more expensive 2000USD version stops working (and prevents you opening you scene files) when you stop making payments…
