I recently upgraded my Windows 10 Pro PC to Windows 11 Pro, and since then I’ve been experiencing very annoying slowdowns when opening and saving .max files. Not only do the .max files take longer to open than they did under Windows 10, but my machine becomes almost unusable during the loading and saving phases: the mouse is extremely unresponsive, especially during the “Loading Corona Assets” phase which is the most time consuming phase.
For example, it takes 3 minutes 30 seconds to open a 600 MB .max file. I don’t remember how long it took on Win 10, but it was definitely less than that. Not to mention the unresponsiveness of the machine that didn’t happen at all with Win 10.
Any clue on the cause of these slowdowns, and how to fix them?
Not sure why there could be slowdowns after switching to Win 11, but perhaps it’s a good time to also switch to a newer Corona version? This was in the V11 changelog: “Significantly improved loading times of scenes (up to 3x)”. I think there could have been some more fixes like that.
Are all the Max files loading off network storage? Sometimes when loading or saving on a network my windows 10 machine can lock up bluebeam or outlook. If so you could try opening the max file locally (copy it to your hdd first) and see if the problem still occurs. Just a thought. If that solves it you could start looking at network drivers etc
I may be in the same boat soon, considering upgrading…
Thanks maru.
Me neither, I don’t understand why switching to Windows 11 would slow things down, but apart from switching to Windows 11 I didn’t change anything else in my configuration.
I work on a project that has been done with Corona 10HF2 at the moment so I can’t update it right now but I’ll update shortly.
Thanks.
No, all Max files are on local storage.
And yes, with Microsoft soon ending Windows 10 client support, upgrading is mandatory, unless you go for the extended client support that is not free.
I remember I read somewhere on this forum that particular combinations of 3ds Max / Corona / Windows versions were known to be causing some slowdowns.
So I was wondering if I was falling into one of these categories.
There’s alos one thread that talked about a particular Windows update that was responsible of slowdowns.
Has it been resolved?
