Astral - "Station ID01"

This is the first of two station ID tags created at Hatch Studios Ltd. for Astral’s “Z-Tele” channel.

The premise here was to create an impactful sequence that would fit into Z-Tele’s programming themes and styles. I developed a sub-story in which we follow a macroscopic machine powering up. The electrical current acts as the catalyst to move us through this vivid environment up until the end, when we reveal to the viewer that the machine was actually the inside of the Z-Tele logo.

A dynamic camera move was essential here, especially to give the impression of a continually-igniting machine in which we just barely miss being hit by fire, sparks, pistons, and much more.

It should be mentioned that we had a great time working on this cinematic, partly due to the wonderful guys at Astral who loved this as much as we did.

wow!..wow!

great spot man!
what do you used for the light streaks?

Have you used fumefx ?

Easily the best thing hatch have put out so far. It’s short, but incredibly tight and just plain impressive to watch.

You need to start posting breakdowns with raw renders though…

my my, impressive piece of work.

Holy crap that was awesome!

amazing-amazing-amazing!

Great job!

Stunninng work Richard!

I would love to do this kind of work. Can I ask how many hours went into this?
Thanks,
Tom.

awsome, totally awsome

Hey guys;

Thanks, man. Team effort, as always.

So, yeah - it took about two months. As you can see from the credits, we didn’t have too many people on it which is surprising due to the amount of modeling and work involved. But it was just one of those really cool projects to work on so you get a lot more done in such a short period of time because you enjoy it.

Yes, FumeFX was used for Fire, Smoke, Mist, as was Krakatoa and Particle Flow. Additional smoke footage was created in the comp. This was created at half-HD. I’m in the process of storyboarding the second one which is really cool too.

Johnnybefree: All light streaks (anamorphics), glows, flares, etc, are all hand-made in the comp. I prefer doing it this way because using stock plugins gives it a canned look. It also allows you to make more interesting effects.

Check out the site description as there is more info there too. And of course, look at the 480p version cause it’s way cooler.

thats super crazy!

are you guys recruiting? I would love to do this kind of work! Right now I feel like I am getting tired of making showrooms and trade show exhibits.

I’m sure it must be very challenging to do this kind of stuff
