Autodesk License

So, if I pick monthly at $185, it is actually $225.

and the $1470 monthly is actually $1785.

It’s like someone is opening their trench coat, trying to sell watches in an alley. Am I missing something?

"Pricing and availability
3ds Max 2017 is available now for Windows 7 and above on a rental-only basis. Subscription prices are up by around 17% from the time of the release of 3ds Max 2016, to $225/month or $1,785/year."

Another joke from AD…

Yep, I just got off of an AD support chat. They have raised their prices with the realease of 2017… really?

So, it costs $1000 more to rent monthly than to rent yearly? That is insane! I think we are getting the rug pulled out from under us. It’s also insane to buy the software over again every year, which is what’s happening. MAX 2017 looks okay and is a must for 4K screens, however, I would stay on 2014 with a standard screen, if I had a choice. The problem is, I no longer have a choice. Buy everyone one up, kill them off, and hold software as ransom. Tell you what, there are some very happy investors that love the gravy train.

It was $185 just yesterday. Tell you what, someone gets the one month free and $185 after that and then gets told it has gone up to $225, is going to freak (That, to me, is bait and switch!). They can raise the monthly cost at any time, and what, we just say thank you? Don’t worry about overseas hackers ransoming your files, here in the states, you can do it legally.

They have to pay for those nice offices somehow (oh, and pool too!)…Autodesk | Projects | Gensler

SO AGREE WITH YOU !!
I still like 3ds max despite its bugs but I hate AD !!!

Isn’t that because it comes with advanced support? Can’t you say NO in that section?

In the UK and EU site, it says NO by default

We dont have a local online AD store so I’m FORCED to use a reseller, and they seem to be confused about the 70% trade in deal.

Ill have to check, but I don’t think so. Their cut/pate chat thread said that they reserve the right to adjust prices.

My understanding is resellers can’t do leasing and if Autodesk only leases, then the resellers are out in the cold. I have an email into my reseller, but I have not heard back yet.

Okay, went straight to AD website and followed a few links. $185 without support and $225 with support. It is $750 more to lease per month. Leasing anually is $1470, again without support.

Did you change the old subscription for the new rental model ?

No. I am looking into all my options.

Common those prices for you guys in US are pocket change. Here in Europe we have to sell our organs to afford AD :frowning:

So I heard. What prevents you guys from just purchasing through the web using some kind of VPN?

<NSMethodSignature: 0x18810900>

nope, this way license wouldn’t be valid. No worries AD knows how to cover all possibilities.

Sure you can trick the storewebsite with using a VPN but most of the time at the payment stage they will still check your bank information/location against your IP location. So lets say you have an US IP and told the store you live in the US but your bank says your home address is in Europe the payment won’t go through.

Exactly.
And it looks like most of the SW vendors adopted this quite discriminating policy of charging the same amount in dollars and euros :-/
And it gonna be even worse when Donald the Duck wins those elections :-DDD

A few years back, when a € was almost worth a 1.50$, it was tempting to buy a permanent license outside europe. But AD clearly stated in their conditions that you couldn’t buy the license outise of your country or at least continent. Bah.

Martin, I’m thinking to move across the border to your country and start growing weed  Might be more profitable and fun than 3d, why don’t you do it while it’s legal now in Czech?
