Automotive - Mercedes AMG

Thought i would try something a little different to the usual Architectural stuff i do. Model from Hum3d.com and HDRi and backplate from HDR-hub.com
My first go at this style of image - so any feedback appreciated.

Only post work is a slight curve adjust and LUT

Something strange with your image - maybe it’s how you added the render to the backplate, but it looks like some of the render is transparent to the background. The composition is also a little funky with such a wide angle on a car with already an overly large “snout” :wink:

Constructive crit is what i wanted so thanks all taken onboard. Its all striaght out of the VFB.Sometimes having a different set of eyes on your image helps staring at it for so long can be negative your your final output.
Maybe its just me but i started to quite like the way the snout sat in the image. Onto the next iteration :slight_smile:

Definitely a personal taste, glad you took it as intended :slight_smile: I wonder why the background shows through though - you can see it on the left side, the marks in the pavement continue _through_ the car.

It’s the vray paint material no transparency at all - didn’t spend too long on material so will look into it

These sorts of images are nice and easy and very effective, so to us pro’s we’re out to spot things your average Joe wouldn’t :slight_smile:

Andy spotted that transparency thing going on the left side which I didn’t detect :slight_smile:

But to me, it looks like too much light is coming from a source in front of the car and overexposing both the number plate and making that front tyre look unusually lit, as though a light source is hitting it from the front (and below) - making me wonder if there is an area light or some other light source out of camera that is in front of the car.

The background is showing through the car, indeed. In these cases, it helps to instance the HDRI into the reflection environment slot. It is a common mistake when the background image is loaded into Max’s own environment dialog (number 8 is the hotkey, I believe).

Could be that the reflection env was set to screen space which seems to just project the image onto the scene in a really flat way.

@kosso_olli nice work on your portfolio - The only lighting is the HDRi. This is another iteration - unsure what was going on with previous materials


Tyres don’t do it for me, too light - and a bit too much bloom for my liking :frowning:

@JezUK agreed on tyres and bloom. Last iteration and onto another.All good experience to get productive feedback. Looking at my first image now its definitely an awkward perspective


I always say, as long as you (or your client) are happy, that’s all that counts :slight_smile: (you can’t please everyone).

But for me, the tyre material doesn’t look right - too reflective imho (they are picking up the reflections from the road and real tyres don’t do that).

Other than that, it’s good work and you should be proud :slight_smile:

Looking much better! Not sure I would show the wheel spinning though, especially with no driver :stuck_out_tongue:
