Best export settings for short animation renders used in social media edits?

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a short product-style 3D animation and wanted to ask for some workflow advice from people who regularly render animations for social media or client preview videos.

The scene is fairly simple: a small object animation with camera movement, soft studio lighting, and a clean background. I’m rendering the frames from Chaos software and then assembling the final clip in a mac video editor for basic trimming, music, and captions.

My main concern is keeping the final video clean after compression. The render looks sharp in the frame sequence, but after editing and exporting, I sometimes notice slight banding in gradients and a small loss of detail around reflections.

For this type of workflow, would you recommend exporting image sequences as PNG, EXR, or another format before editing? Also, are there any color management settings I should be careful with when moving from the render output to the editing/export stage?

Any advice on render output format, color space, anti-aliasing, and export settings for short animation previews would be appreciated.

Thanks!

First all you’d be best ditching the Macintosh (Jk).

Ask any AI agent what the best format for your chosen outlet would be.
Take care if using CMYK logos over RGB, they don’t translate well.

Colourspace neutral over some fancy OEM Dell or Apple conversion.
PNG, EXR, etc will be decimated in the final result unless you’re hosting it yourself on your own website. Don’t expect too much, and also don’t expect one format to excel over another, the average consumers attention span is a lot less than the time it will take you to learn the ins and outs of Digital Marketing.
