bifrost foam - how to render with vray 3.1 ?

Hi,
just trying out maya2016 bifrost with vray 3.1.
How can I render bifrost foam with vray ?

When I have a bifrost simulation and I add a foam node to this simulation, vray only renders the bifrost liquid but not the bifrost foam.
Mental ray renders both (liquid and foam) but vray only renders the liquid.

What do I have to do so vray renders bifrost foam ?

Thanks a lot
Ingo

Hello,

Unfortunately this is not supported yet. I’ll update the thread when we have more info on that.

Best regards,

Okay, thanks.

So I will wait.

Ingo

is there any progress on this? is there no way to render bifrost foam in any capacity inside vray? any workarounds? Maybe using Phoenix shaders?

Foam is now supported in the 3.35 nightlies. Technically, it may be possible to write a Python script for 3.1/3.3 and use VRayMtl, but it’s best to get 3.35 if possible.

it works in 3.35 but it crashes as soon as you add motion blur

Ok, will see that, it’s still being tested.

The motion blur should work in the next nightly.

does that mean its up now? i didnt see it in the release notes.

Hi Ingo,
How did you get the foam to work with the new nightly 3.35.
Is there some specific workflow it. I tried enabling export particles/voxels on vray extra attributes to foam and liquid shape. But I am unable to get the foam working.

Thanks
Kishore

I just rendered it right from the bifrost foam object. Using the bifrost foam material. The liquid was the remesh. Motion blur crashes it instantly though.

Thanks for the reply Ingo,
I got it working too, it made a mistake with scale of the scene and couldnt see anything earlier.
But yes, I noticed that maya crashes when motion blur is enabled

No prob. Not Ingo btw.

I am so sorry, I somehow had the name fixed in my mind.

hey, who can get me access to the nightlies?

Please contact us at support@chaosgroup.com in that regard.

could you tell me more about this Python script solution?
Or guide me to a location that outlines the details of this.

@Ivaylo
You made mention of some sort of python script that could help facilitate foam rendering in cuts < 3.35.
Any way you could take a moment to elaborate on this for me?

Anyone knows how to render the foam with density as user scalar connected to the opacity of a vray material? It doesnt work by putting the density as vrayUserScalar. There is a export particles/density attribute on the bifrost foam but I don’t know how to use it with UserScalar. Tried particleSamplerInfo as well with no luck.

Any ideas?
