When I add a physical camera atributte, and enable it, the camera makes a zoom in the scene. That’s because the vray physical camera has its own attributes for controling the “camera view”.
I just want to unserstand what is the math behind it so I can match my maya camera, of course I can do it by hand, and it is close enough but in some shots it’s vital to be exactly the same.
As I understood by reading other posts here, I found that it’s a balance between film gate, focal length, specify FOV(?), focus distance…anyways.. I am confused.
Please tell me in this particular camera that I have, what I need to change in the vray physical camera attributes to match exactly the same “camera view” as my maya camera with the “specs” above.
Not really, as soon as I click “treat as vray physical camera” , the camera zooms in. when I do next: specify fov from maya cam it doesnt work either, it still has a small but very noticeable zoom.
when we enable the physical camera and we tell it to read from maya camera, the “Fit resolution gate” attribute it is locked to horizontal, and when it was just the maya camera the fit was “fill”…
If I unlock the attribute it pops back to horizontal, now the render at least respects the orientation of my camera, but I can’t use specify focus, and I still can’t align my renders to what I see on my display.
This is affecting my work and sanity.
Someone please fix this I have already posted a thread on it months ago.
My workflow is similar to that, but avoids cluttering your camera presets menu:
- Add the VRay Physical Cam Attrs to your camera. Do not enable it yet though.
- Click the drop down box for Extra Attr (NOT VRay Extra Attr).
- Under that menu, look for the field called “Camera Physical Specify FOV” and set it to 2.
- Once that’s done, you can drop down the Extra VRay Attr menu and flag on the Physical Camera…your view will not change from what it is set to right now.
