Clear coat to dark and metallic

Hi,

my impression is that the clear coat material could get some improvement. It looks like the clear coat color is much darker and to metallic (at 0% metallic) than expected. Here a comparison of a standard plastic and a clear coat plastic. It could be useful if the clear coat material allow to start with a standard plastic look and adjust it up to a strong metallic effect. At the moment there is a gap between both materials.

Options to control the clear coat roughness and intensity could be very useful too.

Hi @Micha ,

in the current preview clear coat is not effected properly by sunlight… yet. So either in the next preview or 2.5 release, whichever happens first, it should be significantly improved.

Hey Sean,

How do we access this shader from within Revit?

@Sean_Farrell The test was done without sun in a HDRI environment only.

@Pieter_2 The keywords in revit are clearcoat and carpaint.

We adjusted the metal base layer of the clear coat to better resemble the look of a normal metal without coating, thanks.

Sean, are you saying that adding the word clearcoat to the material name triggers a clearcoat in Enscape?

Yes, exactly. If you’re using Revit, also check out the dedicated material article here:

Yeah Ive read that article but don’t see where it says clearcoat in the material name triggers the feature. You should consider adding that info.

I tried adding the word clearcoat to a PBR Revit material for terrazzo to see what effect it would have… I couldn’t see any effect.

Does it matter where in the material name the word “clearcoat” needs to be?
