Ive been trying to work out how much of an upgrade a pair of titan rtx cards would be over my current pair of titan x (maxwell)
I have to say, the vraybenchmark results and search facility is absolutely useless for this purpose. As far as i can tell the only option is keyword search which doesnt even recognise the word “maxwell”.
Searching for “titan” brings up hundreds of results, eith every combination of cpu/gpu/number of cards.. And the results vary hugely. Ive found results which place titan rtx only slightly faster than maxwell, and others that put it well in front. I guess this is down to cpu variation.
Can i suggest an “official” league table, with all cards tested on the same machine? I bet you guys have an enormous pile of older gpus there gathering dust.
Ok now ive got that out of the way.. How much faster is the rtx than the maxwell titan? I know its got ram advantages.. But its also insanely expensive.
Id also love to know more about progress using rtx cores.
My cpu upgrade is a no brainer. 6 core 3930k to 32 core threadripper should give a noticeable speedup i recon

This won’t be any different from what we have now in the VRayBenchmark database. Even if we test the cards we have in one machine, the results can’t be “official” because of the various manufactures (ASUS, Sapphire, NVIDIA, Palit, EVGA etc) and card revisions. They have different clock speeds, power and cooling and this can change the performance a lot.

Yes, we are playing “cowboys and indians” in a couple of forts made of GPUs Jokes aside, all of our rendering-capable cards are in use.

titan rtx about 48seconds stock
titan x about 74 seconds
my rtx 2080ti about 48, but @2k/8k. slightly boosted stock = 53
dont forget rt cores in future, i saw some magic…

Paul, that was the datapoint i was looking for. ive got high hopes for the RT core speedup.. but i think im going to hold fire on my purchase to see what the next generation brings, unless i get a big urgent job in the meantime. maybe the next titan will have 2x the RT cores, or maybe the next gtx will have more ram.. the titan RTX sure is a nice card, but the price.. its painful to contemplate when i can get used titan x cards for 400 euros.
