I have a problem with compositing 16bit or 32bit images in PS or AE. I render image with Lightmix and save all light separately as different files. When I save it as 8bit images, in PS and AE it looks the same as in VRay VFB. But when I save it as 16bit tif or 32bit exr, it just looks different no matter what I do. Dont know what I should do/change to make it the same more or less. But now the difference is too hugh.
I dont even have to make composition from multiple images - even one image loaded in PS/AE looks different.
Can someone help me please?
So 8bit looks different too. When I copy VFB to clipboard, it is ok. When I load all images to PS, it looks like gamma 2.2 in VFB and not srgb in VFB. What I can do please?
When I copy image from VFB to clipboard and paste it to PS, it looks the same. When I saved jpg from VFB and load it to PS it is different. When I change display in VFB to gamma 2.2 from srgb, saved image are the same as in PS, but I dont like this version. What can I do? When I tried to compose 16bit or 32bit image in AE, it is so different then what I see in VFB thet I cant compose those. Not sure where is a problem.
If you paste it from clipboard, you may be skipping the color management in PS, and that’s why it looks like it does in the VFB.
Without seeing your configs exactly (if you could, pack me an empty scene in max to look at) it’s difficult to ascertain for sure.
So do you mean config of max scene ok? When I finish rendering, I will send you a scene to look at. Thank you. I can post an image of PS settings, but I think it is ok.
Yeah, i’m suspecting it could be you’re not under LWF in Max, could this be the case?
It caught me out a few times when opening third-poarty stuff and lazily clicking “ok” on each dialog, which in some instance turned off my gamma correction in max.
start with changing your display correction layer to gamma 2.2 - I’m assuming you are saving with 2.2 through 3ds.
this is why your blacks are more milky on the saved output. you are making corrections looking through one transform and saving through another.
I’m refering to view transform in VFB. sRGB is different to 2.2. if you are saving with 2.2 (through 3ds max) you should view it as 2.2 to get the same result.
Yes, I thought that. I know, but srgb is better, I want to have this instead of gamma 2.2 version. Can I do that?
Second thing - When I try to compose lightmix layers 32bit exr in AE, one layer is the same as VFB in srgb, but when I put one on top of each other and set screen blending mode, final image is different then in VFB. Why is that?
ocio display correction has “save in image” option. just find one that will do linear to srgb transform and us that.
it should be add not screen. as in the psd I shared.
