Im not sure if this is a bug in Corona 5 but the AO map seems to be acting strange compared to Corona 4.
By default, the OA is picking up wireframe edges. Setting the Ray Directionaly to 1 seems to fix this but then the max distance seems incorrect in relation to the object scale. I hope this makes sense.
A comparison with v4 would be useful, but the inside mode was extremely sensitive before either way.
Not saying it’s not a bug in v5 but I guess it’s time for the curvature map to materialise. Once that is available, AO inside mode is obsolete.
I am suspecting 3ds max System Unit setup, what setup you are using. My tests were done in 3dsmax 2020 and 2019, with V5 and V4 respectively. I did use exactly the same settings with 5mm distance.
I don’t think anything was changed with AO or how it’s evaluated between V4 and V5, so I am moving this to resolved.
If anyone has some similar findings, please share them here and we will move it back for investigation.
Hi everyone, I fail to see how ray directionality won’t work in this case, indeed the edge occlusion becomes somewhat less strong but it can still be controlled through max distance and by not maxing ray directionality to 1.0, internal edges will be invisible at 0.5.
Regardless, I am reporting it for further consideration, please stay tuned.
