Disable automatic Anima scene updates for the 3ds Max Anima plugin

A question from my client

An Anima project (.aniproj) is located on a network drive and is loaded by multiple people in 3ds Max.

While working in 3ds Max, the Anima plug-in detects an update to the project, updates the Anima project in 3ds Max, and interrupts work.
(Messages such as “Anima will restart scenes” and “Anima scene has been changed” are displayed at the bottom of 3ds Max.)
Anima is not running in the background.

Is it possible to prevent the 3ds Max Anima plug-in from detecting updates to loaded Anima project files?

using Max 2026 and Anima version 6.1.1.

Hello, is there any Chaos support?

Hello flat,

The automatic synchronization using Alive should only happen if both Anima Designer and the DCC application (3dsMax or C4D) are opened on the same machine at the same time, and having loaded a 3D scene with content from the same Anima scene into the DCC application.

Even in that situation, this automatic update can be set to manual by selecting this option on the Alive button in the Anima Designer:

If this is not the case and you are experiencing automatic updates in other situations, without having both apps on the same machine, please share more details on the setup you are using and how we can try to replicate the same issue.

As I mentioned in my initial question, Anima Designer is not running in the background of 3ds Max (it is not Alive).

Therefore, if Anima Designer is not running in the background (i.e., not Alive), this means that the 3ds Max Anima plug-in will not automatically update an Anima project once it has been loaded, correct?

Yes. As said before, if this is not the case and you are actually experiencing automatic updates in that situation, without having both apps on the same machine, please share more details about the setup you are using to help us try to replicate the same issue. Alternatively, it would also help us seeing a video of your screen.

To protect your privacy, please send us that information by opening a ticket through the Chaos Help Center.
