I am having a hard time of bringing in displacement maps in Maya Vray. Is there a tutorial or any information on the proper way of accomplishing this? Any help would really be appreciated.
In hypershade; Just middlemouse button + drag your texture to the material and choose displacement
I thought you had to go to the VRayMtl1SG and input the displacement underneath that option. But when I do that my model balloons up.
You probably need to adjust the amount of the displacent and/or the shift value (by default, the black values mean “no displacement”, not middle grey).
Best regards,
Vlado
I have tried adjusting teh displacment amount all the way down to 0. The model shows breakage or ballons all the way down to 0 then it is normal. I have also tried shift value, but I don’t se if you are taking a displacment from a program like Mudbox why would you have to do a shift value. Has anyone tried to do the displacement in Vray?
Yes - me and a lot of other people; it appears to work fine. It would be helpful if you can post some examples - images, or even better, a scene. If you wish you can also send it to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com so that we can take a look.
Best regards,
Vlado
Here are some screen shots and scene shots of the settings. If anyone need more please just let me know. I really a appreciate the help. The link is a zip file. If you need links to each picture I can send that also.
