would be nice to get some updates to the docs here - OpenPBR mode within VRayMtl and also OpenPBR itself.
Dear Marcin, hello.
Please share what you are looking forward to seeing as an update in the article. It will be quite helpful for us.
OpenPBR shading mode in VRayMtl was introduced with V-Ray 7, update 2 (release date August 05, 2025), and subsequent hotfix versions added some minor improvements.
Are you referring to adding more visual examples or a separate article about the GPU-supported stuff?
OpenPBR itself is not a Chaos invention, as listed in the text. Developed by Adobe and Autodesk, hosted by the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) as a subproject of MaterialX.
We could add some hyperlinks to the official pages. Should this be enough for the general introduction?
Waiting for your answer.
Best,
TS
hello,
apologies, I was not clear enough.
I’m referring to documentation of VRay GPU - it clearly supports not only OpenPBR mode (to certain degree) of VRayMtl but OpenPBR shader itself (also - just partialy). and I would expect the docs to clearly state what is and what is not supported. not hyperlinks or introduction - up to date documentation.
Hi all,
Thanks for the examples.
To sum up, to have a better picture of supported and unsupported + a column or a separate article about GPU-supported features. Logged now as DOC-13611.
@flat , geometry_tangent (vector3) is listed as unsupported in the table within the article.
thank you.

This is the information I wanted to know. Thank you.
Dear all, hello.
We improved the following articles:
For V-Ray for 3ds Max OpenPBR Shading Mode + small changes to V-Ray GPU Supported Features
For V-Ray for Maya OpenPBR Shading Model + small changes to Supported Features
Thanks to @hermit.crab , the information was precisely collected and confirmed by the dev teams.
Enjoy,
TS
Thank you.
thx update.
I’m looking for full support, but I’m under no illusions regarding Chaos’s commitment to M&E.![]()
