If we have more than one Vray license (multi license being juggled by the license server) can we have more than 10 nodes doing DR on the same frame from the same controller? Or is that really a limitation imposed by the Windows workstation 10 connection limit?
vray has a 10 limit. if you have 2 liscences you have a limit of 20. windows however has a 10 connection limit. im sure people here can give you advice on getting around that limit.
I know that region-render isn’t really an option, but if you split your scene and let render each region through backburner, you’ll be able to render 1 frame with all nodes you have.

To restrict null session connections (or disable null session access): 1. Start Registry Editor.
2. Locate, and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value Name: RestrictAnonymous
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 2
Default: 0
A value of 2 restricts null session connections.

What I was trying to figure out though, is the 10 node limitation I’m seeing, if its because of a hardcoded limit in Vray, or the windows connection limit.
Well apply that Reg edit and you will know.
the 10 node limit in vray is part of the programming, you pay for 1 work liscence, 10 node DR render liscence, and unlimited node network rendering liscences
An old topic, I know, but we have 3 licenses of Vray and 12 render machines. Am I still limited to having just 10 machines performing a DR? I was under the impression I could have 30 (3 licenses x 10), but it seems not, unless I am doing something wrong.
Its not vray thats the limit .. its windows.
But I have 2003 Server and 20 CAL licenses…is it still a Windows limitation? (We have 15 machines that render when we are doing a network rendered animation with no problems.)

No (couldn’t afford that even if we wanted to!). We have our main server as 2003 server and all other machines as XP Pro.
so what about you machine that controlling the dr ?

The machine that instigates the DR needs to be able to accept more than 10 connections, hence a Server OS. In this case, it is a workstation which is XP Pro.
Alas, it looks like I will be limited to 10 machines at any one time.

Just run the patch available from that site.. no need to mess around with regedit.
Simply a regedit isn’t sufficient anymore anyways. With XP service pack 2, MS made some deeper changes to enforce the connection limit that the simple registry hack doesn’t get around. I think the utility on that link overcomes this.
I haven’t been able to check to see if this opens up the 10 connection limit with DR, fully utilizing both our VRay licenses because DR isn’t working at all for me anymore.
