DR limit (1.46.xx)

Hopefully someone can help me here, I am using DR in max 7 and it works like a dream, the only problem is that only 10 buckets appear when i am trying to use 20 avalible buckets. I am using 4 licensed machines and 1 unlicensed render node.

Is there a reason why i am limited or is this normal??

DR works in Max 7? Is this via Max’s DR or VRay’s DR?

I have the beta of VRay… do I need to do anything special when I get Max 7 to get DR to work?

It is V-RAy 1.46.xx that fixes DR not Max 7 , DR works in Max 6 now too. Sory Chris I do not have an answer to your question though.

Ok so I am assumming that you have 5 computer all P4 with HT. So 2 procs, each + you are counting the extra HT “virtual” proc as well. Making an effective 4 procs per computer x 5 which will give you 20. Right? It seems to me that the HT may not be working across DR. I would say that this is only a minor loss in performance since the virtual procs will only give you about a 10% to 15% boost. It may be a bug. Or it may be working, but DR is unable to find the “virtual” proc to use. I would report it as a bug.

OK so there is your answer… 4 dual xeons is 8 procs (buckets), 1 dual amd is 2 procs (buckets), and one p4 HT (1 proc + HT = 2 buckets)…

you should see 12 buckets. are you sure that you are including your own computer in the DR? that may account for the missing 2 procs.

the xeons are HT enabled so 4 xeons = 16 buckets

Are you sure multi-threading is enabled in all the copies of MAX?

Even on a dual xeon machine with hyperthreading enabled if multi-threading is not enabled, you will only see one bucket rendering in vray.

Thats what it sounds like to me.

Tony, all of the computer have HT enabled in max. I can clearly see the different IP adresses of the buckets that are rendering

I’m not talking about hyperthreading.

I’m talking about multi-threading under customize/preferences/rendering in MAX.

It has to checked to enable dual processor support.

Check it on all the machines.

If you can see all the different buckets when rendering, then I don’t understand what the problem is. Each machine is identified by a different IP address, as you say. Is there a particular machine thats not working?

just checked and all of them are checked to support Multi Threading

Just a thought, perhaps vray is not seeing the other liscenses from the other three dual machines and is only allowing the 10 computer limit that goes with a single liscence. That would definetly be a bug!

But 5 computers is well below the 10 computer limit, so that shouldn’t matter, and they shouldn’t have to be licensed.

I am thinkg Egz that it is based on the number of buckets not on the ammount of pc’s that are running. I have about 30 processors that i have avalible to me for DR and it would be great to use them (we do a lot of large scale billboards)

No, the limit is 10 computers, regardless of how many processors in each. If you have 10 Windows Advanced Servers with 4 CPUs each you can render on all 40 processors with DR.

intersting, I wonder why its not working? Have you had any luck with getting more than 10 buckets rendering?

I wish I had access to more than ten, but I only have eight buckets available here..

There is a limit of 10 simultaneous network connections in windows worskstation licenses though, but I don’t know if that applies in this case.
