DR - not working on two windows 8.1 Slaves

3ds Max Design 2014 SP5
V-Ray 3.00.07
Windows 8.1 with all the latest updates

I recently updates to V-Ray 3.00.07…3.00.05 was working

DR does not work on two machines as well as V-Ray jobs sent through backburner. I tried sending a mental ray job and that worked fine…so I suspect V-Ray
also…my Windows 7 slave works fine

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Are both V-Ray spawners running as a service? If yes, please stop them and try to start them manually. Do you get stable V-Ray dummy then?

Would it be possible to open 3ds Max on one of the problematic machines and load the V-Ray plugin there?
If there are any issues you may try to reinstall V-Ray and make sure to use “Run as Administrator” option.

I have not had a chance to start 3ds Max on one of the machines but I did stop the service (re-installed V-Ray 3.00.07 as admin) and manually started spawner…then a maxscript window opened up for the vraylighlister…strange. Maybe my profile is corrupt

also I tried installing V-Ray 3.00.05 as administrator and still the same issue

I started Max on the slave and V-Ray works…but DR still does not work (also re-installed V-Ray 3.00.07 as admin) - also deleted max user profile so it created another (C:\Users\Sean\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2014 - 64bit\ENU)

First please make sure that Vray License Server is configured properly to take its license from the machine where the dongle is plugged.
Next, please stop any V-Ray services from the slave machines.
Then start V-Ray spawner manually and pay attention to 3DSMax instance that loads with the spawner.
Does 3DSMax instance flashes, restart itself or it stays stable and when it is hovered with the mouse it prints “vraydummy2014.max”?

Except updating Vray to version 3.00.07 have you changed anything else on the system?

-the only thing that would have changed on the system would be windows updates (set to automatic updates)
- the 3DSMax instance flashes then stays stable …when it is hovered over with the mouse it does show “vraydummy2014.max”?
- I noticed when I sent a job that something flashes on the screen and then the icon disappears and then come back on. I assume that it’s just crashing (like the bb message above)
- for fun I set up a MR distributed render job and that woks fine.
- firewall is OFF

In order to eliminate any scene dependencies would you please perform one DR test on a very simple scene with a few primitives and a dome-light.
You could switch to Fixed Image Sampler with 10-20 subdivisions in order to slow-down the rendering, otherwise the main machine will finish the render before the slaves join it.

Once the test is finished please send the Vray Log file from the workstation and slave machine.
Please update us afterwards.

I’m embarrassed to say that it was something with the file that would not work. When I made the test scene as you suggested it immediately worked. I then merged in the file I was having trouble with and that worked. I was just a bit crazy in deadline mode and didn’t pause to test another scene. Thanks for helping.

Glad to hear it works now.
Feel free to contact us again if you have any troubles with it.
