Editing the mesh of a vray proxy from chaos library make rendered viewport shading freeze

Hi guys,

I’ve run into an issue with a TV model (TV 001) from the Chaos library. I imported it into my scene and edited the mesh to remove the stand. I also rescaled it and applied the scale (Ctrl+A).
I checked the scale in the Proxy tab under Object Data Properties, and everything looks correct. However, whenever I switch the viewport shading to ‘Rendered’, Blender freezes and becomes unresponsive.

I tried waiting, but nothing happens. If I switch back to ‘Solid’ view and wait a bit, Blender eventually unfreezes, but the scene with edited V-Ray proxy won’t render at all.
I tried a VFB render as well, but I get the same result.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or knows how to fix it?

Thanks!
Nicolas

Hi nicolas_chevillard,

Editing a V-Ray Proxy (or a Cosmos object) in Edit Mode is not a correct workflow. In both cases, you’re only affecting the viewport preview, not the actual geometry that V-Ray uses for rendering.
If changes are needed, they should be made on the original asset and then reloaded or re-exported.

Hi @zhanet.georgieva !

Thanks for answering.
Ok, I was used to edit mesh (convert to) in 3DS so I guess I tried to reproduce the workflow from there. Problem is, the asset is completely secure from cosmos so I couldn’t find a way to change the original except by exporting the proxy in .obj and then change the mesh and apply material, which is painfull…

Anyway, thanks
