Experiencing Problems with Light Cache and V-Ray Adv 3.50

I`m having this weird Problem when Light cache is being calculated. It takes up all my RAM and then Windows kills 3Ds Max.

My Light cache settings are pretty high, could this be the reason?

How much ram do you have? 5 gb for 3ds max / vray is pretty low.

8 Gb at all
and dyn Mem Limit set to 6000 mb.

So this is with 3.5 only? Have you tried the same scene with 3.4 ?

No, since this is a new scene. But I tried with another smaller scene and when Light Cache is on World and at 2000 it is crashing. Apparently 8 GB are not enough.

I have lowered the Light cache settings changing them from World to Screen, and now it is currently rendering.

It would be better to stick to “Screen” mode for the light cache.

Best regards,
Vlado

Ok. Thank You. I was trying to evade some light related blotches. Switched from Light emmitting Lightmtl to IES Lights and from “Screen” to World

Generally speaking 8 gb is very little these days. Windows alone can eat half of that easily. When you use light cache a lot of data is being generated about the scene before the rendering, so you will require more ram (it can’t be controlled by dynamic limit) since all the data is gathered at the light cache phase.

Upgrade to 16 or 24 gb is you can, I got my self 128 gb and never looked back

Since I`m new to Vray and generally rendering this is my old notebook. Next week is coming the new one with 16 Gb Ram and GTX 1070m. I will then upgrade it to 32 Gb Ram. I`m looking to purchase a workstation till the end of the year.

Thank you all for your replies.
