I’m currently trying to render a scene with glossy metal reflections (.75 glossiness), and I’m getting DR buckets that don’t match from my other machine. It’s just a typical vray material with default settings. Fresnel reflections off. Both machines have all the appropriate permissions, and all my textures are on the office server, not on a local hard drive. I have “Transfer missing assets” checked in the DR dialogue, as well. Both machines have exactly the same hardware. The issue is only showing up in the reflection pass (crop attached) and final rgb. Irradiance map, light cache, etc. are all fine as far as I can tell. The scene is lit with an hdri in a dome light. I tried lighting the scene with an ambient light to eliminate that as the issue, but the problem persists. I’ve encountered this problem in the past, and I think I ended up just rendering with one machine or fixing in photoshop because I couldn’t figure out what was causing the problem. It almost seems like each machine is using a different reflection environment, or there’s some kind of gamma issue.
V-Ray 3.50.04
3ds Max Design 2015
Windows 10
Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!
Does DR computer know about all textures and HDRs?
Hi Jiri. Yes, both machines have permissions to access the texture files stored on the server. Furthermore, I have “Transfer missing assets” enabled in the DR options.
Yep. Both are running 3.50.04
Hey staddon, would you be able to share this part of the scene and hdr you are using for testing? Generally speaking for me everything works fine under DR. I did have a case of a bad vray install, so it rendered, but rendered wrong…and simple reinstall solved the issue. Additionally if you open 3ds max on both machines and load the exact same scene and render it without DR, what kind of result would you get? do the two images match exactly? sometimes just opening a 3ds max scene on a DR machine will print some errors or whatever and help debug the problem.
Hi Dmitry. Thanks for your reply. I unfortunately can’t share the scene with you since it’s for work. I’ll try what you suggested though. I’ll see if I have some time to make a test scene that I can send as well.
This might be a bug after all so if you have a chance to remove/replace the confidential data and send us a stripped down version of the scene which still replicates the issue that would be great.
Is there any suspicious error/warning/failed lines in V-Ray Logs on both machines?
I have the same problem with several of my scenes, when DR is on and I do a crop, then I get the buckets. I do the full scene, I get no buckets with DR on. I have all assets accessible by all computers. Any ideas? I’ll send scene file at some point, but was hoping someone had a solution already I could try.
If everything works fine on the full image then it is most probably a bug. Please pack one of the scenes along the textures and send it over for inspection to support@chaosgroup.com
Don’t don’t forget to include link to this thread for reference and screenshots for the correct and incorrect result.
