Help: Hair and Fur Mesh - Corona Renderer

I hope someone can help me out on this. I have created a Moldavian styled roof hut (long dried grasses) using hair and fur in 3DS Max but it doesn’t appear to render with Corona; is this right? I have tried converting it to a mesh but the hair turns into cylinders. Is there a way around this problem?

Many Thanks in advance,

Yes, there is. Rendering>Enviroment>Effects>Hair&Fur>Hair rendering options>Hairs - Geometry. Hair&Fur will be translated to geometry at render time and will render with Corona.

I’ve tried doing that but the hair and fur just renders as cylinders rather than ‘hair’ when it’s set to geometry. I’ve attached some screenshots - the first showing how the hair looks in the viewport and the second how it renders out.

Does it render ok in other renderers (scanline)?

It renders fine with vray so I’m guessing it’s something to do with Corona?

Make sure you chose hair as geometry in vray as well, when you do comparison. In my experience, Corona renders Hair&Fur exactly the same as in MR or scanline (as geometry). And your example looks expected.

So does Corona not support hair and fur in Max when it’s not set to geometry?

Unfortunately, not yet.

Hi, works properly here. Only Tip fade feature don´t work with Corona.

Fur_A have default settings.

crawlewis let me give you a long shot, have you tried apliying a gradient ramp to the opacity channel of the material? Maybe that can give you tip fade.

It’s a long shot, I’m so busy at the momento that I can’t try that.

Cheers!

I really did not do anything, I only decrease root radius a lot.

I imagined that hehehe, I was trying to give you an idea to achieve that effect

Cheers!

Hehe, thanks juang3d!!

My friend Tiago Medeiros had spoken about this in the corona facebook group, but I gave up because it would greatly increase the rendertime.

Those cutted out tips are caused by random scale in General Parameters. That’s the way Hair&Fur geometry works, i’m affraid.

So is this produced by turning it to geometry mode?

Yes man!
