I am rendering out a blanket where I am trying to show off the texture of the fabric. I have to render out at 1k for the final.
The question I have is how can I hold up detail when I pull out from an object with texture to a wider view.
I know I can change the filter type, currently using Lanczos, but this also affects the edge aliasing of anything.
If I render out at 2k and rescale to 1k in after effects I get way more detail holding up. But at 1k I just get mush out of v-ray
What should I be looking at ? is 1k just too small?
Render settings are pretty standard, Gi I started using Brute to see if that would help with the details.
min subd 1
max subd 100
threshold .005
1K seems far too small for such fine details. You could lower the displacement’s edge length (default is 4px if view-dependent, which is huge for this resolution) and/or increase the general amount of both.
thanks, I think that is what I was looking for, as soon as you zoom out it falls apart, which makes perfect sense. The other thing that helped was instead of using a normal map, using a bump map instead really seems to work better.
Thanks!
you can also reduce the bitmap filtering amount, that will probably help keep some detail a bit farther out as well.
