when I bring an fbx revit file into max and select an object, I’m getting several objects in the selection. The part I don’t understand is that in the revit file these multiple objects have different material assignments? I select the roof fascia and I’m getting that and the exterior building cladding. I want to assign a corona material to just the fascia. So how do I select ONLY that without getting multiple objects in my selection.
the fascia and cladding may have been imported as one object even though they have different materials.
Since they already have different material assignments, you may not need to separate them. Try selecting the object, add Edit Poly, go to Polygon mode, and select the polygons by their Material ID. You should then be able to assign a Corona material just to the fascia.
If you need the fascia to be a completely separate object, you can also select those polygons and use Detach.
