how to achieve a soft lighting effect in a scene?

I’m doing an interior scene with soft lighting and i manage to get the lighting setup as what i want, but i’m trying to get a soft glow around the area where the lights are ie, the ceiling around the down lights to have a soften glow such as those seen in Natty’s work..the overall looks become very warm, soft but the objects within stillm remains sharp looking and not blurred off (if i do try to achieve the effect using a blur filter in PS)..

any settings or advice from you guys the expert?? natty??

Thank you very much!!

Hi alvin76

yeah it’s photoshop ..

ok well basically select the area you want to glow … copy it and paste it back in … then apply this action to it that ive done … it’s very simple.

RIGHT CLICK and save it in your actions in photoshop …

i always doing that by hand…
thnx alot for your photohop action, that will reduce our production time

i love vray and the shared knowledge

thanx a million Natty! this will be very useful!

there is also a specualr Bloom script that comes w/ max in the scripts folder, that does that straight out fo max…just run the script…
haven’t used it in a while…

paul.

hows does it work … i ran the script and nothing happend ?

Check your effects dialogue after running the script

 thanks for the action man.

you need to move the RenderEffect-SpecularBloom script into your plugins folder for it to work.

It will then become a Render Effect. You dont need to “run” the script

<EDIT>

or what trixian said.
I should read before write…hahah

I have made a Photoshop plugin to do this - it’s called Diffuse Glow:

nice…
thanks Richard.

paul.

great plugin richard…i’ll have to play around with it

When I try to run Natty’s Glow.atn over PS.CS, a sign appears telling me:“The command set is not currently available”
Why?
Thank you

WHat version of Photoshop are you using?

Its probably just older than Nattys version

ahhh…somehow i didnt see that…doh.

hmmm i guess we just gotta wait for mr natty. I will test the script now in PS CS

Ok i worked what your doing wrong.

You are applying it to the first layer (which is usually locked) you first need to select the parts of the image that you want to glow…windows areas, highlight areas…etc… then copy those selections and paste into a new layer, then select the new layer (with the areas that you want to glow) and run nattys action on that layer. Should work fine.

I was able to reproduce your error by trying to run the script on the base/locked layer.

Harutium… you have to make a selection and create a new layer by copy and pasting the selection back in… then run the script !

Savvy, mates!
Thanks a lot

I really like the specular bloom script in MAX…its easy to over do it though. I usually use the interactive mode to get it the way i want.
