Can I Install VRay without problems or do I have to wait for an updated version?

You can install it; it will work fine. The only thing that will not work is the V-Ray lights in the viewports; to fix this, we have to release a recompile for 3ds Max 2011 specifically.

Grats on your new install! Is it Max 2011 or Max 2011 Design that you have? I was wondering why I didn’t get my download notice yet from Autodesk 
I am on Max 2011.
I also did not get a download notice from autodesk but since I work close with a dealer I knew that it is published today.
Just log into the subscription center and download it. Of course I do not know how new buys are dealt with, there maybe you have to wait for the notice.
I have the Max 2011 Design download available in the subscription center, but have not received any download notice.

I just wanted to install VRay for 2011 and was prompted to uninstall VRay for 2010. Is there a way to install VRay for both versions at the same time?
It is possible, but a little messy; when it tells you that the installer needs to remove the previous version, click OK. When the UNinstaller starts, click Cancel. Then go on with the installation.

install works as described by vlado but i can not get DR to work.

I guess the spawner can not start the wright Max version (2011) on the renderslave ?
will there be a quick fake to get it work?
Having the same issue here. Spawners won’t start at all.

Replace the file vraydummy2010.xml with the one attached to this post and it should be fine. Note that you still have to do a backburner rendering first.

Thanks Vlado - just to be clear though: in my 2011 root directory there is a vradummy2011.max - I don’t have a .xml file in there. I have one in the 2010 directory though. Should this new file you sent be called 2011.xml and added to the root directory of 2011?

The file I posted is to be used when you install V-Ray SP4a for 3ds Max 2010 into the 3ds Max 2011 folder.

On my XP64 bit system I can see the lights both in the command panel >> Create and also in the viewport.
On my Windows 7 system - I dont see them in the Command Panel.

all these problems might be a good reason to wait for the official 2011 version of vray hehe
They show up in the viewport, but they won’t illuminate anything. Also, they show up in the command panel on Windows 7 for me… Anyways can you email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com ? I would like to ask you to try the 2011 build and see if the problems go away.
