Just wish . . .

1) When I try to change VRfRH options, for ex. Postprocessing Saturation, I’d like after clicking on “grayed” parts of menu scroll freely up and down. I know, that I can just click on menu name… but it’s .. mmm boring and not sometimes possible

2) When I render smth I see a picture. But for ex. I change postiion of camera or object and need to rerender - pictures are enclose eachother. Maybe it’s more flex when it’s kinda sorted or smth like that

3) Where Vray Frame Buffer ? -= found Readme.txt heh  =-

4) No preset system -= found Readme.txt heh  =-

5) Why Envirionment treated as infinite direction light where mmmm shadows casted from camera position ?

6) Don’t understand how … damn - for ex. I put HDR (it’s not correct to put .jpg the first pict in background, think it’s more likely to put there first .hdr or .tiff ) in Envirionment and Background slots (GI Texture and BG Texture - damn not like in VRfMax) and I don’t see BG texture after render… just the color, I set in BG color slot.

7) Seem like it’s not always possible to uncheck Default Lights - when I unchecked it, nothing happend in rendered picture  Or maybe it’s my fault - there’s no material on it (strange, but can be).

8) Rhino 4 supported ? Because I really tired of Rhino 3  And all my recent works are made in Rh4 (w.i.p. / beta)

That’s all for now (approx. 1hour)

Edit:

9) Damn almost forgot - when I try to save image as for ex. .bmp .jpg .tiff, and after this I try to convert it to .jpg .jp2 (hand’t tried another formats) with ACDSee -=- it’s always flipped upsidedown.

10) Damn limitations - 800x600 - try to render in perspective in full screen -=- everything is mmm kinda streched horizontally. I though it’s really a damn glitch, but after I remembered the limitations . . .

11) Where I can change tesselation parameters ? Is it hardlocked between viewport mesh resolution ? -= found Readme.txt heh  =-

12) I want to ask - try to render orthogonal (right / left/ etc.) views with Rhino render and when in Vray… Clearly see the perspective with Vray.!.

Re: Just wish . . .

Let me first say thanks for your help. Now I’m going to attempt to respond to all of your points to the best of my ability.

Could you clarify what you mean by this a little? I’m guessing you mean that your having trouble getting the mousewheel to scroll the window up and down? Or am I completely misunderstanding your meaning.

2) When I render smth I see a picture. But for ex. I change postiion of camera or object and need to rerender - pictures are enclose eachother. Maybe it’s more flex when it’s kinda sorted or smth like that
The need to completely process the same scene over multiple renderings will be resolved. It will only reprocess the scene if geometry has changed or lighting has changed (and even then it will only redo what has changed whether that is lights or geometry)

5) Why Envirionment treated as infinite direction light where mmmm shadows casted from camera position ?
I’m not sure I follow you on this one, sorry.

Background images are not being set or do you mean the background image is not showing up at all in the rendering? I will look into that… GI textures should be HDR yes, and you can also have the HDR as the BG texture.

7) Seem like it’s not always possible to uncheck Default Lights - when I unchecked it, nothing happend in rendered picture  Or maybe it’s my fault - there’s no material on it (strange, but can be).
As soon as a light is added to the scene the default light is automatically disabled even if the checkbox in the menu is still checked. Sorry for any confusion. If you have no lights in the scene and still see no difference when you uncheck the default light checkbox that is a problem

8) Rhino 4 supported ? Because I really tired of Rhino 3  And all my recent works are made in Rh4 (w.i.p. / beta)
We definately plan on supporting Rhino4. However, they have not yet released an sdk. I have already been reading over the major differences and planning accordingly. Rhino4 will not support ANY Rhino3 plugins, this is out of our control, so VRay for Rhino will have to be recompiled and changed to work with Rhino4

9) Damn almost forgot - when I try to save image as for ex. .bmp .jpg .tiff, and after this I try to convert it to .jpg .jp2 (hand’t tried another formats) with ACDSee -=- it’s always flipped upsidedown.
I will look into this.

12) I want to ask - try to render orthogonal (right / left/ etc.) views with Rhino render and when in Vray… Clearly see the perspective with Vray.!.
I will look into this.

I have the same problem with acdsee. It doesn’t happen with photoshop. Also, if you set acdsee to thumbnail view, the thumbnails are upside down already (seems that they reflect how the image really looks like).

I think point 2 is about the fact that each render opens in a new window, in the same location as the previous one.

I think you’re confused about environment light and default light. If you want a skylight only rendering, you need to turn off default light. It’s the same as in vrayformax. From the moment you place a light in the scene, the default lights are turned off automatically (this is also true in max, or rhino renderer, or flamingo,…).

Paul, can you pm me about what you find so great about rhino4.0? I’ve been watching their video examples, and all I see are new commands that are nothing more than a combination of old commands with a new name.

Ok. Do the following: find IndirectIllumination rollout; there click to Saturation “box” (which is set to 1); change it for ex. to 2; then, as it always happen in Max - click on any place outside the “box” (except rollout name) and try to scroll window up or down with mousewheel -=- only value inside the “box” will increase/decrease… window won’t move.

Heh… Got it  Default lights were on. . .

Yes. I mean is not rendered at all

Mmm… But why default lights cast default shadows ? Look at the Vray for Max!

Damn… however, Rhino4 is the future  BTW - any chances we’ve got VrfST (VRay for Alias StudioTools) ?

NEXT - I want to ask --- which Vray core is used ? I think it’s not 1.47.1x because there’s no IBL in features or PhysCamera. But I can clearly see, in gallery, Vray.exe - standalone, with frame buffer already

Just wish . . .

Don’t worry, Rhino4 will definately be supported, as for VRay for StudioTools, anything is possibile, however we havent specifically discussed that program.

We are using VRay 1.48.03 at the moment. We have not had time to hook up the frame buffer yet, as that is a very new addition in the vray sdk. Patience :o

Just wish . . .

Gotcha, yes that will be changed as well. I just haven’t spent much time on our frame buffer since we are going to pull it out and replace it with the stock Vray buffer.

Just wish . . .

1.48.03 ?

And I wish that VrayforRh can handle simple .mat files from Max. Coz it’s a pain in *** to simply make mat. It may be only Vray Materials from lib to parse
Why Vray lights mult. set to 1 ?

Just wish . . .

Are we using the standard material editor in Rhino, or is there a specialist editor for it?

Are all the HDRI and lighting options available in vray available in rhino, cause if it is thats amazing.

Ow, devs might want to get the new Visual Studio 2005 Express edition, its free to download and use for 1 year:

/BlueShift

Just wish . . .

Why Vray lights are solid black ? Maybe it more flex to make 'em invisible or white ?

Just wish . . .

Paul,

You do have the option in the light properties to make the lights invisible.

Best Regards,

Corey

Just wish . . .

Ok. Found this for rectangle.
I have another question - why max res 800x600 ?!
Why there’s no support for render properties (Resolution) ?

Just wish . . .

This is a limited time free version of V-Ray for Rhino. The resolution cap will not exist in the paid version.

Best regards,

Corey

Just wish . . .

Is that a wise idea to limit the size? I suspect that rendering large still can reveal problems that are not there when rendering small images. Besides, we are registered Vray users, which means we can render large stills anyway… I don’t see the point

Just wish . . .

It’s clear to me, that size limit is not that hard to bypass. And I agree to Gijs
