I´m trying to get in the subsurface scattering with VRay, but I´m not very successful. I tried the VRayMtl and the VRayFastSSS, but I do not get nice results.
I also did Search > subsurface, but I didn´t get results explaining SSS in depth or providing good examples.
So maybe it´s possible to provide some tutorials or links to tutorials.
It would also be great if some good examples could be provided showing up material- and render-settings for SSS.
Vlado, I think you may have some nice examples? I found your dragon-example, maybe this scene or scenes kind of this could be shared?
There are a number of ways to get light scattering inside objects with V-Ray:
(*) VRayMtl with translucency (good for candles, porcelain, marble etc);
(*) VRay2SidedMtl material (good for cloth, paper, grapes etc);
(*) VRayFastSSS material (could be useful for skin);
For example, the following scene uses VRayMtl for the candle and the fruit cup, and VRay2SidedMtl material for the grapes and the leaves:
That’s very nice ! It is also a good way to learn by analyzing ready-made scenes.
Wouldn’t it be a good thing to have a bunch of examples scenes bundled with vray in the future ? These could be simpler than this one, and focusing on specific aspects and would gratly compliment the excellent online manual.
