Lower sampling in the shaderball previews? Slow with universal type method!

Heya Vlado,

Something I noticed since using the universal type approaches is that if I’ve got a material with high subdivs, it can really lag the material editor while opening / changing parameters. I assume that the medit shaderball preview is influenced by your render settings and so if you’ve got a material with extremely high subdivs, it can often lag quite a bit - any thoughts or clever ways to speed this up a bit?

Cheers,

John

If you mean the general V-Ray settings, then no, the material editor is not influenced by them. It uses its own settings.

and so if you’ve got a material with extremely high subdivs, it can often lag quite a bitI believe we already reduce the subdivs when rendering in the material editor, but I will check again just in case.

Best regards,
Vlado

Super - thanks for the clarification Vlado.

I suppose that john was pointing to mat subds when writing “render settings”; probably the subds has been already reduced but probably this is not enough for ultrahigh settings like 512 (nowdays it’s not so unusual); maybe you can think about a spinner inside the system panel in order to help different user’s workflow.

Could be  I will make a note to look into it.

Best regards,
Vlado
