Material scanning service

We’ve been researching this for a few years and now we are finally confident enough in the technology to go public with it:

looking ACE Vlado!!!
So, i suspect this will be another product like the pdplayer is for example.
Can you tell us more about it?
How much for plugin like that with a library? Do you plan subscription model for that or will that be fixed price + library?
Is this for Maya only? or Max as well?

Because we don’t expect the scanned materials to be a widely used service, we are experimenting with a subscription model for the rendering plugin. Once you get licenses for the rendering plugin, the materials on our website are free. There’s a limited selection currently (mostly some fabrics, leather, and a few metals), but we intend to add to it based on user feedback. We can also scan additional materials for you for a price, depending on the number of materials that you want to scan.

The rendering plugins are included in the latest releases of V-Ray for 3ds Max and Maya. Some example scenes are available here:

I don’t see examples for Maya specifically, but you can load the scanned materials from those scenes into the VRayScannedMtl material in Maya - without a license the materials will render with a watermark.

Best regards,
Vlado

This is such a logical step forward for the next decade of rendering, looks really cool.

Can we use this thread to give feedback regarding the scanned materials?
