Max 2016 SP3 out now

Grab it while it’s hot

Although I don’t see a mention in the log about the groups and instancing issues from SP2

I think this problem was caused by objects inheriting scale from objects they are patented to, which is fixed, apparently.

thanks for posting this.

ok this is fixed: - Chaos Forums

There is now V2 verison of SP3

do you know what they fixed? is it necessary to install if you’ve already installed SP3?

Do you have a link for this Luke? I still only see the same one…

After I nstalled sp3 the v2 appeared in autodesk application manager

I forget how, but isn’t there a way to install SP’s fast? I mean, SP3 has been for over an hour. I remember SP’s for 2015 took forever, until I ran it from the command line, and it took minutes.

The info you want is right there on Autodesk’s page in the readme under installation:
http://up.autodesk.com/2016/3DSMAX/3dsMax2016\_SP3\_Readme\_enu.htm

Well, they didn’t make that easy to find.

NOTE for SP3: If you are not using the Autodesk update Manager it is recommended to improve install performance by forcing silent install:
1. Open a command prompt in the same folder as the .msp
2. Run the command:
msiexec /update 3dsMax2016_SP3.msp /quiet /l* update_2016_sp3.log

I think its a peak of Autodesk “coding performance” when an update takes an hour. Just plain idiocy.

It went quick with the manager. Download to install, not so much.

Is there any well to obtain the current service pack number other than opening the main program and looking in “About…”? It’s a pain when I need to import/export licenses to DR machines just to check.

looks like it, through add/remove

Cool - never knew that was there. Thx.

Or check the version number of 3dsmax.exe by looking at the file properties in Windows Explorer. So this also works if you just remotely access the file system.
