Hi you guys, as i stated earlier in this topic, I also bought the plug-in. And i wanted to share my test-results with you guys.
The good thing:
Transferring a model from Max to Maya goes really fast.
But if you want the geometry to come over correctly set the following:
1. In the FBX Export: Automaticly set the “Preserve Edge Orientation” to off.
2. And Add a “Edit Poly modifier” to all meshes.
If you do this, all models send to Maya are coming over, exactly as they are in Max. Nice Quads.
But for the actual shading networks, it’s really limited : Fall-off, Mix, nodes etc not coming over)
But the worst thing is that alot of attributes are not coming over, It’s even worse then the Chaos Group - Vray Material Importer. (that skips about 8/10 attributes)
What I did, is create a Vray Material in Max and set all it’s values to 0,66 or 666 or 0,6. Then transfer it with MaxToMaya. So it’s clear what attributes get transfererend and which ones are not.
for the Standard Vray Material, atleast these are not being transfered. So you will not get a correct result:
- Diffuse Roughness
- Self Illumination
- Subdivs
- Brdf Type <--
- Reflection Amount
- Highlight Gloss <--
- Reflection Subdivs
- Fresnel IOR <--
- Affect Channels
- Anisotropy
- Anisotropy UV Coords
- Anisotropy Rotation
- Max depth
- Reflection Exit Color
- Dim Distance
- Affect Channels
- Refraction IOR <--
- Fog Color <--
- Fog Multiplier <--
- Fog Bias
- Max Depth (refraction)
So if you are looking for a solution to quickly transfer a max file to maya, with some basic parameters, this plugin will work great.
If you are looking for a solution that exactly transfers the vrayMaterial from 3DsMax to Maya. it’s not so great.
I wanted to add, that I contacted the creator and he replied pretty quickly, He is going to try and see if he can fix it.
