New Release- new bugs

Hi!
First off- many thanks ASGVIS team ;D- there’s a real progress
I’ve just tried new RC (btw why there’re 2 .exe files for SU6 with the same date ?).
Why so quiet? People have been waiting for ~8 month?
So far some problem found:
1. Copy-paste from file to file doesn’t create new mats in vray editor.
Only 2-4 close-open new file helps. Must be fixed- one works from scratch.
2. The same happens after purging- no update in editor.
3. Sometimes faces with double-sided material applied are rendered as one-sided (back side- default mat)

Re: New Release- new bugs

I got and messagebox saying “invalid parameter” (translated from Norwegian) when i tried to edit any materials in V-Ray. When I clicked OK the messagebox appeared again in an endless loop.

Re: New Release- new bugs

I’ve run into these issues as well. the invalid parameter is critical. once this comes up…if you didn’t save, you’ve lost all info back to previous save. I’ve also run into when I create a SU material, it doesn’t appear in the render dialog. And the, “linked Vray material” is no longer there so there’s no way to give values to an existing SU material. Noticed that groups or components still disappear randomly. I like where things are going though…please keep up the hard work.

Re: New Release- new bugs

also, if you open an older model, a dialog comes up saying that changes to your scenes may happen…I haven’t noticed anything happening to my scenes but random materials will get rescaled down to 10". The material is always resized to 10". weird, annoying but not critical.

Re: New Release- new bugs

From what I understood from the readme file all SU materials are now automaticly linked with the V-RAY material.

>crisp109.
Don’t worry you’re not the only one. Lucky me I don’t get this message in norvegian ;D
>thomthom
I thought they will add some vray extention to the SU material editor but I was wrong
Has anybody conquered the displacement? :-\

Re: New Release- new bugs

what’s displacement

8)… (sorry im showing off, if ur talking about displacement within the SR1, then the image above does not relate to that, i hasnt installed it yet)

Re: New Release- new bugs

>Free agent
Don’t install it or make backup copies of your .skpies (btw you make fantastic stuff). SR1 screws up textures scales\position.
Just my 2 cents

Re: New Release- new bugs

 bad release…

Re: New Release- new bugs

Yeah…the service release screwed my render. But its my fault anyway for installing it.Anyway, is it really the official release candidate?

Yeah, it’s a great idea that the Su materials automatically link with the V-ray material but it doesn’t work. Since it doesn’t work and you can’t do it manually, you’re screwed. I’m going back to the original release because this release is worse off.

Re: New Release- new bugs

Hi,

I gave a shot to the unofficial beta RC ..

so far :
Good improvement for sunlight …

BUGS:
1/ Material don’t stay in the model.. I tweak reflection/refraction. Save file, close and open..material gone to basic(only diffuse)
2/ DRspawner is instable and crash. Don’t know why.

I’ll try further, but for now I have to stick with the old bugs…deadline to meet.

Cheers

Re: New Release- new bugs

This feels more like a beta than a release candidate.

Re: New Release- new bugs

Before - Draw circle, pull to extrude into cylinder, render with V-Ray. Nice smooth curved surfaces. ;D

After Service Release - Draw circle, pull to extrude into cylinder, render with V-Ray. Terrible faceted un-curved surfaces.

Its weird because the sampling stage of the render shows samples on a smooth surface, but the final render comes out faceted.

Re: New Release- new bugs

hey guys,

i got the same problem too. material not updated them self in the model. Materials editor back to delfult mode after reopen the file. i haven’t enother funtion yet because just both of the last two problem that piss me off. Thanks for the release anyway. Hope they can’t fix all the problem we found.
Cheers

Re: New Release- new bugs

Another issue I’m having is that when I install the new release it affects the copy multiply function in SketchUp. Basically, you can’t copy multiple at all. Not really sure why the installation would have any impact on SU functions but it does.

Re: New Release- new bugs

>What a rel-ef! I blamed SU itself for mult\divide\ copy and numeric input have gone.
Sadly the new SR is pretty close to my definition of virus- I had to uninstall it

Re: New Release- new bugs

Why are we using the new SR if simple functions like “multiple copy” dont work.. or it renders faceted edges on a cylinder… ASGVIS is slowly digging itself into a hole by releasing this “virus” to the masses.. Simple question: Did you (asgvis) test this software out before releasing a major upgrade like this???.. NO YOU DIDNT!! My company has no choice but to switch back to the old version.. and soon if nothing comes of VRAY for SU we are going to have to switch to 3DS max for our vray renders… If you are having problems or are making fixes let us know… The last few months with no info about what was going on with the materials section was almost the last straw.. This is no way to run a business and keep people wanting to buy your product. :-*

Re: New Release- new bugs

Is replied in the other thread you posted this complain; The service pack is a release candidate, meaning it’s not final yet. Companies some times give users the choice of testing the application for them self. As with all alpha, beta and release candidate you must expect issues and you shouldn’t use it in a mission critical environment.
Public beta testing is a very nice way for software developers to test their product on a wider scale in in scenarios they might not have thought of them self. Unfortunately, too many seem to expect it to be fully working product and start flaming the product when it doesn’t work.
